Note: For more information on WINS, see the TIS
WINS Information page or
or the Wikipedia WINS page.
-
Computers using the NetBIOS protocol are required to also use the
Case network WINS servers for name registration and resolution. NetBIOS
implementations incapable of using WINS are not permitted on the Case network.
-
The only WINS servers allowed on the Case network are those operated by
Technology Infrastructure Services (TIS).
-
The TIS DHCP servers provide the proper WINS server addresses
to all devices capable of using DHCP to obtain configuration information.
Devices which cannot use DHCP MUST still use WINS if they are
using the NetBIOS protocols (such as Unix or Linux machines running
SAMBA).
The addresses of the TIS WINS servers may be found in the NetBIOS Protocol
section of the Case Network
General Information document.
